wool carbonising

Wool Carbonising is a continuous process which combines initial scouring followed by a chemical process of immersing the wool in a light sulphuric acid bath to remove cellulosic vegetable matter such as burrs and seeds.

When dried and baked at a high temperature the acidified Vegetable matter transforms into a brittle carbon form. It is crushed and de-dusted.

The now contamination free wool is neutralised and lightly bleached prior to drying and pressing.
